SHARES pared back earlier gains, but still closed higher as strong company earnings at the end of the reporting season buoyed investor sentiment.
At 4.15 AEST, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 63.3 points, or 1.5 per cent, at 4263.3, while the broader All Ordinaries index was 62.7 points, or 1.51 per cent, higher at 4333.7.
On the ASX 24, the September share price index futures contract gained 56 points at 4255, with 39,759 contracts traded.
IG Markets research analyst Ben Potter said the Australian share market closed higher than he had expected. |
