Former Serbia international forward Danijel Ljuboja, 31, has long made his desire for a move away from Grenoble clear, but he has not received the kind of offer he expected this summer.
Ljuboja was one of the few players to impress for Grenoble last season as they crashed to the foot of Ligue 1 with a meagre points tally, and for his efforts he expected to receive several fine proposals, though they have just not been forthcoming.
“Honestly, with the 10 goals I scored with Grenoble, I expected to find a team more quickly,” he lamented to L’Equipe. “I refused a few clubs at first because I expected to receive better deals with the season I had just produced. In particular, I said no to a German club that was not too bad and now I tell myself that maybe I had to accept because it was interesting.
“As regards France, I don’t really want to talk. I do my training and I am preparing to give 100 per cent.
“Clubs are likely to activate after the start of the championship when they will realise they have gaps. It's always a shame to wait until the last moment to sign a player; it is better to anticipate and prepare him. I am sure that there are two or three clubs who will have needs - it's always like that. For now, my latest and most practical contacts are with Turkish and English clubs.”
Ligue 1 new boys Arles-Avignon have also been linked with a move for Ljuboja, who was previously associated with bigger sides like Saint-Etienne and even tentatively Paris Saint-Germain. |
